Once again, there are a number of known risk factors. However, Shoulder Dystocia cannot be accurately predicted or prevented.
Studies have shown that other proposed risk factors of Shoulder Dystocia, i.e., excessive weight gain, operative vaginal delivery, pitocin use, epidurals, precipitous and prolonged second stage of labor alone or in combination are poor predictors for Shoulder Dystocia.
